We’re back (and we’d like to think better than ever).

When we set out to build our first in-person event in over two years, we knew the stakes were high. Starting from humble ETHWaterloo beginnings, our events grew to heights that we (at the time) thought were unimaginable, and our community became a central hub for all those looking to build in Web3. When we were starting to nail down the magic that our events had become known for, we were forced to move things online, and our team faced a new set of challenges. ETHAmsterdam represents everything that we’ve learned along the way, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this experience with all of you.

Coming in at the end of Devconnect Week, ETHAmsterdam is a weekend hackathon that gives hackers an opportunity to learn from great minds, meet great people, and build great things.

Step 1: Registration

Though much has changed since we saw you at ETHLondon, so much has stayed the same. Hackers will be required to register at the event venue (Beurs van Berlage) prior to entering. Additionally, every participant will need to take a COVID-19 Rapid Test on-site (provided free of charge) before they can register. Those who arrive early for Devconnect week will be given the chance to complete early registration and testing starting Thursday, one day before the hackathon begins.

Though we will be providing early registration, the main hacking area within the venue will be off-limits to all attendees until the event starts.

Note: You will be able to sign up for a time slot via your hacker dashboard. You will receive testing instructions once confirmed, which will allow you to minimize time spent in registration.

COVID Testing — We are making the choice to require negative tests for entry out of an abundance of caution and a commitment to uphold the highest standards of quality for our community. Though we believe we’ve found the right balance between local health restrictions, community safety, and logistical hurdles, there are still variables outside our control. We ask that you please respect our efforts and the guidance of our on-sight testing staff and ETHAmsterdam volunteers. We are all trying to do our best in order to bring you the best possible experience.

Step 2: Hacking and Hanging Out

After checking in, you will be provided with a badge and lanyard to represent your ID within the event. Once the hackathon space officially opens on Friday at 12:00 (CET), the entire event is up to you. After hacking officially begins Friday night, you can work at any point (and almost any room) throughout the weekend. Tech Mentors will be on-site ready to help you over hurdles and take your ideas to new levels. Like always, we’ll be providing food and drink to keep you sustained, but we can’t promise sleep.

On top of that, each day will have new side activities and perks, from Sound Healing to DIY-Delftware sessions. Plus, we’re bringing in guest speakers like Vitalik Buterin to share their extensive knowledge of the ecosystem, and give you insight into your hackathon builds. Updates for these events will be shared through your Hacker Dashboard and Discord.

ETHAmsterdam Hacker Perks:

🎧 Sound Healing Bath

🥣 DIY Delftware Session

🧱 Human-Sized Jenga Game

🍔 Food and Refreshments for all (and not just pizza!)

Step 3: Project Submissions + Judging

If you’ve been to any of our online events over the past two years, you’ll be well prepared for the judging and submission process. If you haven't, it’s super simple: you’ll be submitting what you’ve worked on via the Hacker Dashboard, and will be assigned judging sessions there as well.

Just like all of our events, you will be given the chance to have your project judged live by a panel of ecosystem experts. We believe this is crucial to giving developers and creatives in our community (like you) face time with those building the projects that you’ve worked on, or would like to someday work for!

Step 4: Celebrating Your Work!

The ETHWaterloo Finale 2017.

At this point, you can breathe a sigh of relief, as you’ve made it past the finish line. Our Finalist teams will be chosen and given the opportunity to demo their hard work live on stage, and you’ll be counted amongst the select few who have built their projects at an ETHGlobal event. Though we select finalists for each of our events, these hackathons are less about competition and more about personal growth. We encourage all hackers to take risks, try new things, and get their hands dirty—you’ll grow in ways you couldn’t have imagined.

What to do at Devconnect

Coming to Amsterdam before the hackathon? You’re in luck, there’s a whole week of activities and intimate events planned for Devconnect Amsterdam. These events are tailored for those looking to deepen their understanding of the ecosystem and progress important conversations relating to the future of Ethereum and will feature domain experts.

In addition, there will be an open Co-Working space located in the Beurs van Berlage with tickets available to anyone interested. Check out the full Devconnect schedule to see more about these incredible sessions!
